5 Great Leadership Reads

During our leadership development programmes, students are always interested in what books we recommend for them to deepen their understanding.

Knowledge is power and it is important to keep learning as much as possible as we go through life, and is especially relevant when we are in a leadership role. If we take time to reflect on what we are reading and what it means, any book can present a development opportunity.

Thousands of books have been written specifically about leadership, in addition to many more that cover it, and related topics, in a less direct way. Reading any of them and applying reflective practices will always be beneficial. Our own office bookshelf contains over 100 books linked to leadership, coaching or personal development. We refer to many of them throughout our courses.

Our Top 5

We refer to the 5 books listed below most often, and many who have read them consider them to be classics. We recommend them as a great way to start:

7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen R. Covey

Good to Great – Jim Collins

Shackleton’s Way – Margot Morrell & Stephanie Caparelli

How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie

Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill

Look out for another set of recommendations, for both leaders and coaches, coming soon.
